Description

Presented is a collection of seventy-seven unopened cello packs from the 1980 Topps "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" series. Topps sent these packs to our consignor, who owned a plastics company in the 1970s and 1980s in Point Pleasant, NJ, called Bo-Con Manufacturing Company. His company would then use the packs to make blister pack products for Topps to distribute. According to our consignor, on one occasion, Topps called him and asked him not to use a recent shipment of packs because the company suspected that it had mistakenly inserted 1980 baseball cards in the packs. He has kept these packs since 1980, and over the years, opened examples to confirm the inclusion of baseball cards. In the packs that our consignor opened, he has confirmed that there are thirteen baseball cards, and the remaining balance is "Empire Strikes Back." He also said that the anomaly seems to happen when the front of an "Empire Strikes Back" card appears on both sides of the pack. (Note that this lot comes from an extensive collection that REA has offered over multiple auctions. The consignor gave us 300 packs and kept about 200 others.) This collection of packs is in exceptional condition, with all packs maintaining their tightly wrapped seal. Total: 77 cello packs.
