Lot # 177: 1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel Eddie Plank PSA VG 3

Graded VG 3 by PSA. E95 Philadelphia Caramel of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank of the Philadelphia Athletics. This is a superb mid-grade example of one of Plank's classic cards. Plank is one of the keys to this scarce caramel-card set issued in 1909 by the Philadelphia Caramel Co. of Camden, New Jersey. The offered card has brilliant colors, outstanding registration, and honest corner wear. Boldly printed checklist reverse. A crease running through the upper-left corner and light toning on the reverse factor into the assigned grade. This card is all the more noteworthy as the image on this card is based on the same one used to produce the rare Plank card in the T206 White Border series. For that reason, T206 collectors sometimes use the E95 Plank as a substitute for the real thing when building their sets. This is an attractive mid-grade example of one of Plank's most striking cards.
