Lot # 2765: 1913 T230 Pan Handle Scrap "World's Champion Athletes" Near-Complete Set (43/50)

Presented is a rarely offered near-complete set of forty-three different cards (out of fifty in the set) from the 1913 T230 Pan Handle Scrap "World's Champion Athletes" series. Missing the following seven cards for completion: Gutterson, Irons, Kahanamoku, Kiviat, Lemming, Nelson, and Tewanima. This fascinating issue features athletes from a number of different track and field and Olympic sports. A key name in the set is Avery Brundage (later became president of the U.S. Olympic Committee). Some of these athletes are well known to card collectors because they are featured in the popular T218 Mecca series. Includes the following ten duplicates: B. Adams, P. Adams, Brundage, two Craig, Davenport, Liesche, Meyer, Rector, and Taipale. Condition is 56% Gd to Vg and 44% Pr to Fr. This is a very presentable medium- to lower-grade near-complete set of this unusual multisport issue, loaded with famous athletes of the era. Total: 53 cards (near set of 43 plus 10 duplicates).
