Collection of 14 unopened wax packs from the R773 Goudey "Indian Gum" series, accompanied by an original display box. R773 Goudey Indian Gum is a fascinating and very historic set. In 1947, Goudey Gum attempted to reenter the bubble-gum card market following WWII, reprinting 96 cards from one of its most successful sets of the 1930s "Indian Gum." The fronts feature the very same artwork of the Indian Gum cards issued by Goudey in the 1930s. The reverses have a slightly different design than their 1930s counterparts and are printed in black ink (as opposed to the green ink of the 1930s issue). Goudey's 1947 efforts were apparently not very successful as they were never heard from again. This series represents Goudey's very last card set. If this set had been a hit, we might have seen Goudey battling with Topps and Bowman in the bubble-gum card wars of the early 1950s. Each pack has been individually graded and encapsulated by GAI: Four packs grade MINT 9, four NM-MT+ 8.5, two NM-MT 8, one NM 7, one EX-MT 6, and two EX+ 5.5. The display box has heavy shelf wear. This is an outstanding group of material that would make excellent additions to any collection of unopened material or companion pieces to any 1947 R773 Goudey "Indian Gum" set or collection. Steve Hart of the Baseball Card Exchange (the leading authority on unopened material) has personally reviewed these packs and, in his opinion, they are original and unopened. Total: 15 items (14 packs and one display box).
