Description

Substantial collection of fifteen different cards (plus one duplicate) from the scarce 1953-1954 Briggs Meats series, highlighted by two rare short-prints and Hall of Famer Monte Irvin. Briggs Meats were regionally issued in the Washington, D.C., area in two-card panels (one two-card panel per package of hot dogs). They are usually found with serious condition problems relating to their method of issue, including creases and hot-dog stains. The 40-card set features a dozen stars from all three New York teams and 28 players from the Washington Senators. Briggs Meats cards were intended to be cut by hand from the two-card panels, and as such, the neatness of the cuts on the offered cards varies greatly. The cards in this collection have been cut inside some, if not all, of the red borders and might qualify only for "Authentic" if submitted for professional grading. Without further respect to the neatness or size of the hand cutting, the condition is two Vg, three Gd, and eleven Pr to Fr (including nine with penciled numbers on the reverse). This collection consists of the following: Bauer (pencil on reverse, otherwise Pr-Fr), Busby, two Dixon SP (Vg and pencil on reverse, otherwise Gd), Fitzgerald, Irvin (Pr due mostly to paper loss on reverse, HOF), Lockman, Marrero, McDermott, McDougald (pencil on reverse, otherwise Gd), Oldis, Porterfield, Schmitz, Stobbs, Tipton, and Yost. This is an impressive collection of sixteen cards from one of the most significant of all 1950s regional issues. Total: 16 cards.
