Description

Offered is a Sports Emmy Award issued in 1984-1985. These awards are rarely offered because few are given and the recipients (or their families) understandably tend to keep them for display. The now-classic design features a golden figure of a winged woman holding a representation of the atom. The plaque displayed around the circular base of this example is engraved "1984-1985 Sports Emmy Award - Outstanding Individual Achievement - (Recipient's Name) - Senior Video Operator - "1984 Summer Olympics" - ABC." We have found that everyone who holds this award for even a moment feels compelled to give thanks to everyone in the room. Few objects have this amusing power. Lettered along the top of the base, in raised relief, is the name of the issuing organization, "The National Academy of Television Arts And Sciences." Emmys, which are awarded annually by the Academy to honor excellence in television broadcasting, are one of the most recognizable of all entertainment awards. Like their motion picture counterpart, the Oscar, Emmys are also quite scarce due to the fact that the Academy strongly discourages winners from selling their awards. In terms of aesthetics, the offered piece is certainly one of the most attractive awards found in the entertainment industry and one that would make for a spectacular conversation piece in any private collection. We close by saying "Thank you, thank you, thank you..." The award measures 15 inches in height and the base is 7.5 inches in diameter. The piece displays light surface wear, including a few minor scratches (mostly around the base). In Excellent condition overall. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
