Lot # 1728: High-Grade 1974 Topps Deckle Edge Near-Complete Set (69/72)

Presented is a remarkable high-grade, near-complete set of 1974 Topps "Deckle Edge" consisting of 69 different cards (out of 72 in the set). Missing only #9 Seaver, 57Aaron, and 71 Bench for completion. The 1974 Topps "Deckle Edge" set was a test issue that received very limited distribution only in the Massachusetts area. Sets of this test issue are rarely offered. Featured in the set are all the major stars of the day, including Jackson, Ryan, Seaver, and Rose, to name just a few. When these cards were issued, as their name implies, they were cut with "deckle edges." This near set includes 15 "white back" variety cards, which are somewhat scarcer than the "gray backs." Included are one duplicate (#31 Stargell) and both back variations for three cards (#7 Munson, 40, and 64 Fisk). Condition is 71% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt (including some Mint), 18% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 11% Vg to Vg-Ex (including one Gd). Eight cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #3 Gibson (NM 7), two 7 Munson (Ex-Mt, gray back and Vg-Ex, white back), 16 Rose (Nr/Mt), 25 B. Robinson (Vg+, white back), 31 Stargell (MINT 9), 32 Carew (NM 7), 41 Ryan (EX-MT 6), 43 Yastrzemski (Vg-Ex+), 54 Perez (MINT 9), 61 Jackson (NM-MT 8), and 66 F. Robinson (Ex-Mt). Two additional PSA-graded cards: #63 (NM 7) and 70 (NM-MT 8). This is an extremely rare high-grade near-complete set of one of the most popular Topps test sets of the era.
