Lot # 1703: 1974 Topps Test Puzzles Complete Set (12) Plus Wrappers

Rare complete set of twelve 1974 Topps Test Puzzles, accompanied by the twelve wrappers in which they were originally packaged. Each "puzzle card" is designed as a 40-piece puzzle (4.75 x 7.5 inches), which when assembled forms a large picture of a particular player. This is the first complete set of this rare Topps test issue we have offered in years! The 1974 Topps puzzle set was test-marketed on a very limited basis only in New England and was sold side by side with the more well known 1974 Topps Deckle Edge test set. The set consists of the following Hall of Famers and stars: Aaron, Allen, Bench, Bonds, Gibson, Jackson, Murcer, Palmer, Ryan, Seaver, Stargell, and Yastrzemski. Each assembled puzzle has a very minor flaw or two, which comes with the territory with the complicated production process of this issue and does not detract from their overall Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt appearance. The Dick Allen and Nolan Ryan puzzles are considerably narrow and lack right borders. Included with the puzzles are their original envelopes/wrappers (averaging Vg due to creasing, with a couple lesser), each of which features an image of the Tom Seaver puzzle. This is an outstanding and rarely seen complete set of this most unusually designed and interesting Topps test issue. Total: 24 items (12 puzzles and 12 wrappers).
