Description

Presented is a very attractive 288-card collection of Post Cereal and Jell-O baseball spanning the years 1961 to 1963. The Post Cereal package-design cards are among the great classics of the 1960s. This collection is highlighted by fifty-three Hall of Famers, including Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Roberto Clemente. All the grades in the following condition composite are without respect to the neatness of the cut. While most of the cards are cut very neatly with the borders showing, a small percentage are cut inside of the borders (or through perforations) and might qualify only for "Authentic" if submitted for professional grading. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1961 Post Cereal (89 cards): Consists of sixty "company" versions and twenty-nine "box" versions. Most of the "company" cards are trimmed at or near the perforations on one or more edges, rather than detached by hand. Without further reference to hand cuts, the condition is 35% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including a few Nr/Mt-Mt), 20% Vg-Ex to Ex (including a few Gd to Vg), and 45% Pr-Fr to Fr (all due to pencil marks on the reverse, otherwise averaging Ex+ in appearance from the fronts). Keys: #7 Maris (Ex, box), 20 Fox (trimmed through perforations, otherwise Nr/Mt, company), 35 Kaline (pencil on reverse and trimmed through perforations, otherwise Vg-Ex, company), 75 B. Robinson (Ex-Mt, box), 86 D. Williams (Ex-Mt, box), 101 Spahn (pencil writing on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt, box), 107 Aaron (trimmed outside perforations on one edge, otherwise Nr/Mt+, company), 117 Roberts (slight trim, otherwise Nr/Mt+, company), 128 Mazeroski (pencil on reverse and trimmed through perforations, otherwise Nr/Mt, company), 145 Mays (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex, box), 168 Hodges (pencil on reverse and slight trim, otherwise Ex-Mt, company), 182 F. Robinson (pencil mark on reverse, otherwise Vg, box), 191 Banks (trimmed outside perforations on one edge, otherwise Ex, company), 192 Ashburn (pencil mark on reverse and trimmed outside perforations on one edge, otherwise Nr/Mt, company), and 196 Santo (slight trim, otherwise Vg-Ex, company). 2) 1962 Post Cereal (112 cards): Condition is 16% Nr/Mt or better, 21% Ex to Ex-Mt, 16% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 47% lesser (almost entirely due to pencil marks on the reverse, otherwise averaging Ex+ in appearance from the fronts). Keys: #5a Mantle (Vg-Ex, from box), 6a Maris (Nr/Mt+, from box), 7 Berra (Nr/Mt), 9 Ford (Fr), 29 B. Robinson (Vg), 55 Wynn (Nr/Mt-Mt), 61 Yastrzemski (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), 92 Siebern (Nr/Mt+), 109a Koufax/blue lines (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg due to adhesive residue), 110 Drysdale (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt), 114 Snider (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), 122 F. Robinson (Pr-Fr), 127 Lynch (Fr), 142 Mays (slightly out of focus, otherwise Nr/Mt), 145a Adcock/spelled "Adock" (pencil on reverse, otherwise Nr/Mt), 147 Mathews (Gd), 149 Aaron (Pr), 173a Clemente/blue lines (Pr-Fr due to part of bottom-right corner missing), and 188 Banks (Vg-Ex). 3) 1963 Post Cereal (50 cards): Condition is 28% Nr/Mt or better, 30% Ex to Ex-Mt, 10% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 42% lesser (almost entirely due to pencil marks on the reverse, otherwise averaging Ex+ in appearance from the fronts). Keys: #17 Berra (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex+), 101 Cepeda (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt+), 112 McCovey (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt+), 123 Drysdale (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex), 143 Clemente (Nr/Mt), 151 Mathews (pencil on reverse, otherwise Ex-Mt+), 169 Banks (Vg-Ex), and 193 Hodges (Nr/Mt). 4) 1963 Jell-O (37 cards): Condition is 44% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple slightly better) and 56% lesser (including some due mostly to pencil marks on the reverse). Keys: #16 Maris (Vg), 36 Fox (Vg), 37 Aparicio (Vg+), 43 Wynn (Vg), 51 Kaline (Gd), 66 Roberts (pencil on reverse, otherwise Vg-Ex), 109 Marichal (pencil marks front and back, otherwise Vg), 138 Mazeroski (Vg), 170 Santo (Vg), and 172 B. Williams (Fr). This is a very attractive collection of cards from these classic and underrated early 1960s food issues. Total: 288 cards.
