Description

Presented is a near-complete set of 1936 S & S Game Card consisting of thirty-nine different cards, out of 52 in the set. Where else can collectors get great looking 1930s cards, including all the great stars of the era, without spending a fortune? Most complete sets of S & S in the hobby originate from a single source - Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards. Yeko was one of the hobby's first full-time vintage card dealers, and in the early 1960s he somehow came upon a significant quantity of 1936 S & S Game card complete sets in near-perfect condition. For many years these sets were offered in Wholesale Cards' fixed-price catalog for $19.95 per set. No one knows how many sets he originally had, but it was probably a few hundred. They were available well into the early 1970s, when Yeko finally ran out. This mid- to high-grade set likely originates from Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards. Condition is 56% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 37% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 7% lesser. Three cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes a promotional contest slip (Vg-Ex). Three PSA-Graded cards: Galan (NM-MT 8), Hayworth (NM-MT 8), and P. Waner (NM-MT 8). Missing the following thirteen cards for completion: Appling, Averill, Cronin, Cuyler, Foxx, Frisch, Gehringer, Grimm, Hubbell, Klein, Medwick, Traynor, and Warneke. Duplicates (6): Davis, Dickey, Ferrell, Hayworth, Hemsley, and O'Dea. Total: 46 cards (set of 39 plus six duplicates, and one contest card).
