Lot # 33: 1889 N172 Old Judge Mickey Welch SGC VG 40

Graded VG 40 by SGC. 1889 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer “Smiling” Mickey Welch of the New York Giants (pose #486-1). The photograph on the offered card is a little light, a characteristic common to many N172 cards. There is light creasing and evidence of album removal on the blank reverse. This is a rarely offered example of "Smiling" Mickey Welch, one of the most legendary Hall of Fame pitchers of the nineteenth century. Welch was the Major League's third 300-game winner. During his thirteen Major League seasons, he won twenty or more games nine times, including seven straight years. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973.
