Lot # 1244: 1955 Topps Near-Complete Set (205/206)

This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade near-complete set (minus one) of the classic 1955 Topps issue. Missing only #164 Clemente for completion. Highlighted by the rookie cards of Sandy Koufax and Harmon Killebrew, this 1955 Topps near set also includes many additional key star cards, including Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Jackie Robinson, and Willie Mays. Included are 14 duplicates. The condition of the set is 39% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a few Nr/Mt) and 61% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few lesser). We have selected six cards for grading and encapsulation by PSA. Keys: #1 Rhodes (Vg-Ex), 2 Williams (EX 5), 4 Kaline (Vg-Ex), 24 Newhouser (Ex), 28 Banks (erasure marks on bottom border, otherwise Ex+), 31 Spahn (Ex), 47 Aaron (VG-EX 4), 50 Robinson (VG-EX 4), 100 Irvin (Ex), 120 Kluszewski (Ex), 123 Koufax RC (VG 3), 124 Killebrew RC (VG-EX 4), 125 Boyer RC (Vg-Ex+), 152 Agganis RC (Ex due solely to centering), 155 Mathews (Vg-Ex+), 187 Hodges (Ex+), 189 Rizzuto (Ex), 194 Mays (VG-EX 4), 198 Berra (Vg), and 210 Snider (Gd+). The 14 duplicates (two #14, 17, two 52, 59, 66, 72, 107, 116, two 118, and two 132) grade Vg to Vg-Ex overall, with a couple slightly higher and lower. This is an exceptionally attractive near-complete set (minus one) of 1955 Topps, one of the most classic 1950s Topps series. The SMR value for just the six PSA-graded cards is $3,025.
