Description

1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet card of Hall of Famer Charles Comiskey, dating from his playing days as leader and player-manager of the legendary World Champion St. Louis Browns. This card features a striking photo of "Commy" with hands outstretched, ready to catch a ball at first (pose #86-3). This is a very presentable example with strong photo contrast. The advertising and player identification within the photo are more elaborate and prominent than on most Old Judge cards. Graded POOR 1 by SGC. Flaws include foxing on the front and paper loss along the right edge of the mount. There are also a few small surface abrasions above Comiskey's image. This is an extremely rare card of "The Old Roman," Hall of Famer Charles Comiskey, from the N173 Old Judge series, one of card collecting’s most substantial and desirable 19th century cabinet-card issues.
