Presented is a collection of thirty (21 different) 1931 W517 strip-cards highlighted by Jimmie Foxx, Rogers Hornsby, and Mel Ott. This issue was originally sold primarily in vertical strips of three, which were intended to be hand-cut by youngsters. Cards from this set are often found in somewhat rough condition (miscut, creases, back damage, etc.). Professional grading companies employ different standards for hand-cut cards, such as these strip-card W517s, with respect to size and neatness of cut, so the listed grades are without reference to any cutting issues (it is possible that some of these cards would only be graded "Authentic" if submitted, but most [if not all] would be numerically graded). Condition is 53% Vg to Vg-Ex, 17% Gd, and 30% Pr to Fr. This collection consists of the following: #5, two 10 Klein (Vg+ and uneven bottom edge, otherwise Vg), 11 Kelly/Reds (Vg-Ex), 12 Jackson (Fr), three 13, two 14 Heilmann (Vg and Pr due to tear), 21 Foxx (Gd), 23 Terry, 26, two 27 Lazzeri (Vg and Pr-Fr), 28 Manush (red strip on reverse, otherwise Vg), 30 Ott (Pr), two 32, three 33 O'Doul/Philadelphia (Vg-Ex, Gd, and Fr), 38 Hornsby (Vg), 40 Simmons (Vg), two 41, 44, 50, 53, and 54 Cochrane (Vg-Ex). This is a very presentable medium- to lower-grade collection of W517 strip cards. Total: 30 cards (21 different).
