Description

Graded VG 3 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example that has ever been graded by SGC (or PSA)! Striking professional studio portrait cabinet of New York Giants Hall of Famer Roger Connor, circa 1892. Manufactured by J. U. Stead Studios of New York, as noted in print along the base of the mount and on the reverse. This is one of the most impressive of all Roger Connor cards. Connor is pictured in uniform as he gazes away from the camera. It is interesting to note that this is the first Stead Cabinet of Connor that we have ever handled and the first to be offered at public auction in the past 21 years (to the best of our knowledge). Connor was one of the greatest sluggers of the 19th century. His 138 career home runs stood as the record until Babe Ruth surpassed it. The cabinet (4.25 x 6.5 inches) displays a small crease on the right edge, as well as a second crease on the bottom edge. Technically in Very Good condition but with a much stronger appearance. The fact that this is Roger Connor, one of the most prominent of all 19th century Hall of Famers, and a pose unique to the Stead cabinets make this a particularly interesting and significant card. This is a very unusual and extremely noteworthy Hall of Famer example.
