Description

Graded NM 7 by PSA. Topps' first attempt at boxing cards was in 1951 with the 96-card "Ringside" boxing series. The exceptional artwork and inclusion of boxing greats from all eras have always made this set one of boxing-card collecting's premier issues. Topps apparently found much greater success with baseball and football. This is confirmed both by the relative scarcity of "Ringside" cards (they are much rarer than Topps baseball and football cards issued in 1951) and the fact that this was the only Topps boxing set ever issued. Presented are two cards (#32/38) from this landmark issue, highlighted by Rocky Marciano (one of the most famous and highly prized of all boxing cards), in their rarest and most desirable original uncut two-card panel form. The 1951 Topps "Ringside" cards were issued in both individual single-card packs and also in a larger wax pack that housed a perforated two-card panel. It is rare to see even a single surviving uncut panel of "Ringsides.” The two-card panels were designed to be separated along the perforations, and few panels survived this fate. The panel is bright and crisp with exceptional eye appeal. A worthy addition to any 1951 Topps "Ringside" collection or companion to any complete set.
