Description

Extremely rare real-photo postcard capturing 29 members of the 1912 Philadelphia Phillies. Notables pictured include Grover Alexander, John Titus, John "Hans" Lobert, Sherry Magee, Fred Luderus, Earl Moore, Otto Knabe, Pat Moran, Dode Paskert, Mickey Doolan, and Red Dooin (mgr.) While the postcard isn't dated, our research indicates that the photo is from 1911, as the players are wearing home jerseys that were worn exclusively during the 1911 season. This postcard has the fascinating distinction of once belonging to Lobert. Addressed to his wife on the reverse, Lobert added the inscription "A bunch of Dooin's Live Wires." In the early 1910's Phillies team president Horace Fogel tried rebranding the team as the "Live Wires," but the nickname never caught on and was quickly abandoned. The postcard shows no evidence of having been mailed. Graded POOR 10 by SGC, the postcard (5.5 x 3.5 inches) presents at a higher level than suggested by its technically accurate grade. This is an extremely rare and possibly unique example of this early Philadelphia Phillies postcard, dating from Grover Alexander's rookie season.
