The 1954 Topps set has always been one of the most popular sets of the 1950s. Issued in the heart of the decade, the set features the rookie cards of Ernie Banks and Al Kaline, along with many other Hall of Famers and stars, including two examples of Ted Williams (first and last cards in the set), all in brilliant color. Unencapsulated Keys: #3 Irvin (Vg), 30 Mathews (miscut centering on reverse, otherwise Ex), 36 Wilhelm (Ex+), 45 Ashburn (Vg-Ex), 70 Doby (Vg-Ex), and 102 Hodges (Vg). This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade complete set of this early 1950s classic, with tremendous eye appeal throughout. The SMR value for just 68 of the graded cards (not including the three PSA-qualified cards or the five cards graded less than EX and factoring in the three EX-MT+ and VG-EX+ half grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $17,795.
