Description

Graded EX 5 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Stunning 1889 N173 Old Judge cabinet card featuring Charlie Bennett (#27-1 pose) of the Boston Beaneaters posed in front of a detailed studio backdrop. This is also a particularly fascinating card as it was obviously issued very shortly after Bennett finished the 1888 season with Detroit. Apparently, no photographs of Bennett in a Boston uniform were yet available when this card was produced in 1889, so Goodwin used a photo of Bennett in his Detroit uniform even though he is identified with Boston near the base of the photograph. This is easily seen upon close examination, giving this fascinating card an added dimension of interest and appeal. The image on this card is bold with strong contrast and tremendous detail. The blank reverse is entirely clean. This is an outstanding example from one of the most revered and substantial of all 19th century baseball-card issues.
