Description

Graded VG 40 by SGC. This rare Nadja Caramels issue from 1909 shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Dockman & Sons, etc.) from the same era. The offered example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner (batting pose) is bright and crisp, with vibrant colors, outstanding registration, honest corner wear, and centered to the top. The card has a slight diamond cut along the top and bottom edges. The important Nadja advertising reverse is boldly printed. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. It is easy to see why this is recognized as one of the most striking and classic of all Wagner cards. This is a very attractive example of the legendary Honus Wagner from this rare, early 20th century candy issue.
