Offered is a very presentable mixed-grade near-complete set of 1911 T3 Turkey Red cabinets consisting of 74 different (out of 100 in a complete set). This set includes 27 rare Turkey Red advertising backs (noted below), while the balance are checklist (with offer) backs! Missing the following 26 cards for completion: #1 Brown, 4 Bresnahan, 5, 6, 8, 9 Cobb, 16 Evers, 17 Griffith, 18,, 19 Joss, 23 Lajoie, 26, 27 Mathewson, 35, 36 Speaker, 39, 40, 42 Young, 47, 78 Baker, 80 Bender, 87 Collins, 99 Johnson, 101 Keeler, 124 Wallace, and 125. Turkey Red cabinet cards are one of the most highly prized of all tobacco issues. They were available only by mail in exchange for coupons packaged with Turkey Red Cigarettes. Because Turkey Reds are large cards that are easily damaged, they are particularly difficult to find in high grade. Turkey Reds have long been recognized as one of the most popular and beautiful of all baseball cards, and are rarely offered as a complete or near-complete set (in this case missing 26). Condition is 24% Vg, 19% Gd, and 57% Pr to Fr (including three altered). Almost all of the lower-grade cards present with bold colors and crisp central images, but small flaws cause them to technically grade modestly (for instance, markings on the reverse or a pinhole relegates a card to Poor/Fair if submitted for professional grading).
