Description

Addendum (4/6; 10:05am): Please note the title in the printed catalog is incorrect. This is not a N173 "proof" cabinet as originally described.

Offered is a photograph of Jocko Flynn of Omaha of the Western Association, which originates from what is commonly referred to as the "Vermont Find" of Old Judge-related materials. This piece was part of an extraordinary collection discovered many years ago, which included several items relating to Old Judge baseball photography, including approximately 50 original glass plate negatives used to produce Old Judge cabinet cards. All Old Judge glass plate negatives known to exist originate from this find. By any measure, the "Vermont Find" is one of the most interesting and significant finds relating to Old Judges to ever surface. Unfortunately, there were no cards, but included were approximately 10 panels of mounted photographic prints (this photograph was cut from one of those larger panels), each framed together, and featuring between three and six different poses of the same player, with each photo having "Copyright 1888 Goodwin & Co." and player identification in white lettering. The purpose, or even the exact year of production, of these photographs is unknown. Some of the poses were never-issued Old Judge cards, including this one.The photograph (4.25 x 6.25 inches), which displays outstanding clarity, grades modestly overall due to creasing. Framed to total dimensions of 6.5 x 9 inches.
