Presented is a collection of eleven 1910-era baseball cards (mostly caramel and tobacco), all depicting Fred Tenney. The Ivy-League educated Tenney was a star of his day, cranking out more than 2,200 hits during a seventeen-year career with the New York Giants and the National League Boston franchise. Tenney is considered one of the top defensive first basemen of the Deadball Era and is credited with originating the 3-6-3 double play and popularizing the defensive positioning (deep and well off first base) that is common to this day.
