Offered is a collection of ten "Rare Leafs" from this classic set. The first color baseball cards of the post-World War II era were produced by Chicago's Leaf Gum Company in 1948. Forty-nine cards in the set are considered "standard," and the additional "short print" series of forty-nine cards in the set are so rare that "Rare Leafs" has long been a formal card-collecting hobby term. Leafs are without question one of the toughest postwar sets to complete because of all the rare cards. Nine of the ten cards in the offered group have blank backs and one has a wrong back. This collection consists of the following: #30 Goodman (Vg), 43 Stevens (Vg), 63 McCosky (Vg-Ex), 78 Evers (Vg), 108 Batts (Gd), 113 Leonard/wrong back, 144 Dillinger (upside-down reverse with miscut centering, otherwise Fr), back is #144 Dillinger), 121 Pesky (Vg), 123 Fannin (Gd), 142 Murtaugh (Gd), and 163 Hutchinson (Vg+). This is an extremely pleasing group composed exclusively of unusual short prints from the popular 1948-1949 Leaf baseball series. Total: 10 cards.
