Lot # 2695: 1985-1987 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 3, 4, 8, and 9 Complete and Near-Complete Set Collection (4 Sets, 336 Cards)

Presented is a substantial collection of mid-1980s Topps Garbage Pail Kids stickers consisting of a near-complete set of Series 9 (missing two cards) and complete sets of Series 3, 4, and 8. Clearly a parody of Coleco's popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls (which ultimately led to a trademark infringement lawsuit), Topps Garbage Pail Kids cards were the brainchild of Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman (of Maus graphic novel fame), who was also the main creator of Topps Wacky Packages. Each sticker features a humorously drawn cartoon kid with a rhyming, alliterative, or word play nickname. Topps Garbage Pail Kids stickers were an instant hit with youngsters, with many schools banning them because of their edgy content and the distractions they caused. This collection consists of the following: 1) Series 3 Complete Set (82): Condition is 20% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 40% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 40% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple lesser). 2) Series 4 Complete Set (84): Condition is 17% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 37% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 46% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple lesser). 3) Series 8 Complete Set (84) Plus One Duplicate: Condition is 21% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 59% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 20% Vg to Vg-Ex (including one lesser). Includes a duplicate of #324a. 4) Series 9 Near-Complete Set (86/88): Condition is 34% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 58% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 8% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a couple lesser). Missing #345a and 345b for completion. Total: 4 sets, 336 cards.
