Description

Presented is a complete set of thirty Cleveland Indians picture pack "action photos" issued in 1949, including the original envelope. Issued during one of the important eras in franchise history, the set consists of posed action photos (6.5 x 9 inches) with facsimile signatures and blank backs. Ten Hall of Famers are featured in the issue, including Satchel Paige and Larry Doby. These two figure prominently in a historical chapter in baseball history, as the Indians became the first American League team to integrate. Doby broke the American League color barrier in 1947, while Paige joined him on the Indians the following season. Condition is Vg to Vg-Ex overall, with most photos displaying a small crease across the lower-right corner. Keys: Boudreau (Vg+), Doby (Vg+), Feller (Vg+), Gordon (Vg-Ex), Greenberg (Vg+), Lemon (Vg-Ex), Paige (SGC VG/EX 4, submitted by REA), Veeck (Vg-Ex), and Wynn (Vg-Ex). The original mailing envelope shows a tape repair, otherwise offering a Good appearance, with minor soiling, creasing, splits at the edges, and a "50 cents" hand stamp. A very attractive and consistent mid-grade complete set of this popular Cleveland Indians team issue. Total: 30 photos plus original envelope.
