Description

Graded VG/EX 4 by SGC. Extremely rare Rogers Peet card of Hall of Famer Tris Speaker. This is one of the rarest multisport issues of the late 1920s. This series was a promotional vehicle for a chain of boys-clothing stores in the New York and Boston areas. Each boy visiting the store with a parent would receive a set of four cards to be stored in a 14-page album specifically designed for this issue. Eight baseball players are included in the 44-card set and Cobb is obviously one of the key cards. Other sports featured in the set include football, hockey, golf, tennis, swimming, track, and aviation. The Rogers Peet set is often identified in guides as dating from the 1930s but actually can be dated to 1929, as the promotion ended late in that year. The image on the card is unique to this issue. The offered card has superb clarity and honest corner wear. Clean reverse.
