Very presentable example of Detroit Wolverines Hall of Famer Sam Thompson (hands chest high pose) from the popular N284 Buchner Gold Coin set. Bright and crisp with bold colors, a strong image, and honest corner wear. Graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC largely due to light creasing and scattered foxing front and back. The advertising text on the reverse is slightly miscut. Buchners are unusual in that they feature generic illustrations of the ballplayers rather than the actual likeness of the identified player. This is a visually appealing Hall of Famer example from the Buchner Gold Coin tobacco set, one of the few full-color baseball-card sets of the nineteenth century and one of the most artistically interesting, distinctive, and classic baseball-card sets of the 1880s.
