Description

Outstanding mid- to high-grade near-complete set of 1956 Topps (339 of the 340 cards in the set) plus both checklists. Missing only #135 Mantle for completion. This near set is highlighted by dozens of stars and Hall of Famers, including Roberto Clemente, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Sandy Koufax, Roy Campanella, and Luis Aparicio (rookie). Includes seventeen significant gray back variations (#1-100). Condition is 21% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt (including a couple Nr/Mt-Mt), 55% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 24% Gd to Vg (including 2% lesser, six miscut, four trimmed, and one altered). We have selected nine cards for grading and encapsulation by PSA (5) and SGC (4). Keys: #1 Harridge (Vg, gray back), 5 Williams (PSA VG-EX 4, white back), 8 Alston RC (SGC NM 7), 10 Spahn (Vg-Ex, white back), 15 Banks (slightly miscut top edge, otherwise Vg-Ex+, white back), 20 Kaline (Vg-Ex, white back), 30 Robinson (PSA GOOD 2, gray back), 31 Aaron (Pr, gray back), 33 Clemente (PSA GOOD+ 2.5, white back), 79 Koufax (PSA VG 3, white back), 101 Campanella (Vg, gray back), 107 Mathews (SGC EX+ 5.5, gray back), 110 Berra (Vg-Ex+, gray back), 113 Rizzuto (Ex, gray back), 120 Ashburn (Vg, gray back), 130 Mays (PSA VG-EX 4, gray back), 145 Hodges (Ex-Mt, gray back), 150 Snider (Vg-Ex, gray back), 164 Killebrew (Ex, gray back), 166 Dodgers (SGC EX/NM 6, gray back), 181 Martin (Gd+), 194 Irvin (SGC NM 7), 200 Feller (Ex), 240 Ford (Ex), 250 Doby (miscut top edge, otherwise Ex+), 251 Yankees (Vg+), 260 Reese (Ex), 292 Aparicio RC (Ex), 332 Larsen (Ex-Mt), Checklist 1/3 (Vg-Ex), and Checklist 2/4 (Vg-Ex). This is an extremely attractive and mostly mid- to high-grade near-complete set of this classic 1950s Topps issue. Total: 341 cards (near-set of 339 plus two checklists).
