Lot # 657: 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life Christy Mathewson and Harry Davis Blue Background Cutout Pair

Presented are an attractive pair of M116 Sporting Life cutouts of Harry Davis and Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson, both displaying the rarer blue-background variation. Presumably originating from a contemporary promotional item, the cutouts are on a thicker-than-usual stock for M116 Sporting Lifes and are hand cut to a size slightly larger than issued cards with blank backs. Without reference to the uneven hand cuts, the condition is Vg (Davis) and Gd+ (Mathewson). To our knowledge, neither PSA nor SGC recognizes these cutouts and will not encapsulate or authenticate them. However, they remain an interesting piece of card-collecting history, offering collectors the opportunity to acquire the same images of Davis and Mathewson as offered on their M116 Sporting Life cards at a fraction of the price.
