Rarely offered example of #4 "Superman and the Torpedo" from the D146 "Superman" series (out of twenty-four in the set) distributed in 1941 with loaves of Saylor's Bread (and several different bread companies). These fascinating novelty cards were designed with a pledge stamp attached to the right edge of the card. Eight different numbered pledge stamps were issued, all to be mailed back to join Superman's "Junior Defense League of America." The front of the cards feature Superman in an action-scene, while the backs have a brief description of the illustrated picture on the front. This is the first example of this rare issue that we have ever offered! (Amazingly, we have seven different examples featured in this current auction.) Graded POOR 1 by PSA, the offered card (the pledge stamp at the right edge of the card has been clipped away) has a small tear on the right border and moderate creasing.
