Description

Presented is a near-complete set (243 out of 252) of 1950 Bowman baseball highlighted by nineteen Hall of Famers, including Warren Spahn, Phil Rizzuto, and Pee Wee Reese. The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, being the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. Condition is 29% Vg-Ex to Ex (including a few Ex-Mt), 56% Gd to Vg, and 15% lesser (including two with color added). Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Pr), 8 Kell (Gd+), 11 Rizzuto (Gd+), 19 Spahn (Fr), 21 Reese (Gd), 28 Thomson (Vg), 32 Roberts (color added, otherwise Fr), 33 Kiner (Fr), 35 Slaughter (Pr), 37 Appling (Gd), 40 Lemon (Gd), 43 Doerr (Vg), 58 Furillo (Fr-Gd), 59 Branca (Pr), 62 Kluszewski (Gd+), 71 Schoendienst (Vg+), 84 Ashburn (Gd), 94 Boudreau (Vg+), 129 Gordon (Vg-Ex+), 139 Mize (Fr), 148 Wynn (Fr), 217 Stengel (Gd+), 219 Bauer RC (Gd+), 220 Durocher (Gd+), and 229 Frisch (Vg). Missing the following nine cards for completion: #6 Feller, 22 Robinson, 23 Newcombe, 39 Doby, 46 Berra, 75 Campanella, 77 Snider, 98 Williams, and 112 Hodges. This lot represents a tremendous foundation for the assembly of a very attractive medium-grade complete set of this classic early Bowman issue. Total: 243 cards.
