Description

Complete set of 1965 Topps "Battle," which memorialized the horrors of World War II as a follow-up up to the gory 1962 "Civil War News" set issued by Topps that also featured the extraordinary artwork of the legendary Norm Saunders (among other artists). Condition ranges from Vg to Ex overall, with 15% lesser. Keys: #1 “Fight to the Death” (Pr due to partial cut of lower-right corner), 65 Checklist (marked in pencil on front and back, otherwise Vg+), and 66 Checklist (marked in pencil on front and back, otherwise Vg). Aside from numbers 54-66 (which feature types of servicemen, generals, statesmen, and two checklist cards), cards from this set feature color paintings depicting extremely violent war scenes in very realistic detail. (In other words, they were horrifying for parents and perfect for kids, as intended.) The "Battle" cards did have an educational quality about them, and in many ways were truly a tribute to the Gum, Inc. famous "Horrors of War" set. This is a very attractive complete set of this very interesting and popular 1960s nonsport card issue. Total: 66 cards. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
