Description

Collection of twenty-three George Burke photographs, each signed on the front by the respective St. Louis Browns player pictured. The signatures are scripted in blue ink. All photos display a George Burke hand stamp on the reverse, with seventeen also showing typed player identification and numbering. The photographs offer an overall Vg-Ex appearance from the fronts while technically grading modestly due to varying degrees of back damage due to one-time storage in a photo album. This collection consists of the following: John Berardino, George Caster (1 3/8-inch tear of right edge), Harlond Clift, Roy Cullenbine (personalized), Rick Ferrell (HOF), Dennis Galehouse (personalized), Joe Grace, Bob Harris, Bill Harris, Fred Hoffman (personalized), Wally Judnich, Jack Kramer, Chester Laabs, Hooks Lott, John Lucadello, Bob Muncrief, Maury Newlin (personalized), John Niggeling (personalized), Luke Sewell, Allan Strange, Bob Swift (personalized), Jack Taylor, and Bill Trotter. George Burke, who resided in Chicago, is one of the most famous baseball photographers of the twentieth century. He was a frequent figure at both Comiskey Park and Wrigley field from 1929 through 1951, and during that span he photographed nearly every player in either league at one time or another. While Burke photos are widely collected, signed examples are especially highly prized by collectors. This is an extraordinary signed photo collection featuring the works of one of baseball's most gifted photographers. Total: 23 photographs. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
