Lot # 2925: Circa 1930s Decatur Staleys Team Vintage Photograph with George Halas PSA/DNA Type II

Vintage photo of the 1920 Decatur Staleys. Certified as an original Type II photograph by PSA/DNA. Per PSA/DNA, the "photo is a later-issued 1930s restrike that was made off the original negative featuring an image originally taken in the 1920s. Note that the names were originally inked in white and were developed as part of the image." The players are pictured in uniform posing together in front of the grandstands, with George Halas in the center of the front row. Additional key members pictured are Hall of Famer George Trafton, future Brooklyn Dodgers manager Chuck Dressen, and Ed "Dutch Sternaman. The caption "1920 Staley Team" is printed in white lettering along the base. This football club, which changed its name after the 1921 season to the Bears, was under the leadership and ownership of Halas, who served in a player/manager capacity and is considered to be one of the game's most important early figures. Halas relocated his team from Decatur, Illinois, and turned to the hometown baseball team for assistance in securing a venue to stage home games for the nascent club. The reverse bears editorial notations, tape repairs, and paper residue. The photo (8 x 10 inches) displays scattered creasing and is in Fair condition overall. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
