Description

Silver trophy tray presented to Ellsworth Vines for his participation in the 1941 Santa Anita Open Golf Tournament. After winning three Grand Slam singles titles, including back-to-back U.S. Open Championships and Wimbledon in 1932, Vines retired from competitive tennis in 1940 at just 28 to pursue a career as a professional golfer. Vines went on to win three professional golf events and shot a Santa Anita course record of 62 during the opening round of the 1953 tournament. The tray is engraved "Santa Anita Open 1941" on the front. The back side engraving reads "Melford/Silver Plate on Cooper/M250/18 In./Made by Wallace." The tray (18 x 14 inches) exhibits tarnishing and surface scratches. Very Good condition overall.
