This collection includes partial sets of Fleer's 1959 Ted Williams and 1960 All-Time Greats series. These were extremely substantial and significant sets issued by Fleer, as it battled as best it could to be a part of the baseball-card market in a world in which Topps had exclusive contracts with virtually all modern stars. Ted Williams was the one current star under contract with Fleer. These sets introduced baseball history to many youngsters, and are favorites with vintage-card collectors to this day. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1959 Fleer Ted Williams Partial Set (49/80) Plus Two Duplicates: 50% Nr/Mt or better, 20% Ex to Ex-Mt, and 30% Vg to Vg-Ex (including a few Gd). Keys: #1 Early Years (Gd), 2 Williams/Ruth (Vg), 11 Williams/Foxx (Nr/Mt), 17 Ted Hit .400 (Vg+), 67 Williams/Snead (Nr/Mt), 70 Williams/Thorpe (Nr/Mt), and 75 Williams/Ruth/Collins (Vg-Ex+). Missing the following thirty-one cards for completion: 3, 5, 7, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41, 43, 48, 50, 57, 58, 59, 60, 61, 63, 65, 68, 73, 74, 76, 78, and 80. 2) 1960 Fleer All-Time Greats Partial Set (51/79) Plus 11 Duplicates: 33% Nr/Mt or better, 58% Ex to Ex-Mt (including some due solely to centering), and 9% Vg to Vg-Ex. Keys: #1 Lajoie (Vg-Ex), two 2 Mathewson (both Ex-Mt), 3 Ruth (25/75 L/R, otherwise Nr/Mt), two 6 Johnson (Ex-Mt and Ex+), and 72 T. Williams (Nr/Mt). Missing the following twenty-eight cards for completion: #7, 10, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 28, 31, 33, 34, 36, 42, 44, 48, 51, 53, 54, 56, 58, 59, 60, 62, 63, 70, 71, and 76. The early Fleer sets are among the most interesting and overlooked sets of the era. This is a very attractive pair of mid- to high-grade partial sets. Total: 2 sets, 113 cards.
