Description

Many companies throughout history aimed the marketing of their products to catch the attention of children. Bread companies were no different, using advertising cards or bread labels with popular characters to sway buying decisions. Since arriving in popular culture, Disney characters, in particular Mickey Mouse, have always been at the forefront of advertising to children. Presented is a collection of thirty-nine (twenty-seven different) 1936 D52 "Adventures of Mickey Mouse" recipe cards. Each 4.25 x 2.75-inches paper-thin card shows a scene with Mickey Mouse, and several include Minnie Mouse and/or Pluto as well. This collection is affixed within a "Mickey Mouse Recipe Scrap Book," an album designed to house the recipe cards. The card backs typically have an advertisement for different brands of bread, and some contain recipes in addition to a bread company advertisement. The scrap book is in modest condition overall with a detached cover and tape stains from an attempted repair. The interior pages are in much better condition. The cards themselves are generally bright and clean, with glue used only at the tops of the cards. Some cards are creased, with a few displaying small slits at the bottom edge. Included in the collection are the following four Mickey Mouse cards issue in conjunction with 1930s licorice products: 1) 1932 Giant Brand Licorice (1 card): #3 (hand-stamped advertisement on reverse, otherwise Pr). 2) 1930s Australian Licorice Pty. Ltd. (3 cards): #75 (Pr), 87 (Pr), and 90 (Pr-Fr). This rarely seen foreign issue is nearly identical to the 1935 Gum Inc. "Mickey Mouse" Bubble Gum series. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a great collection of rare vintage Disney "Mickey Mouse" issues. Total: 43 cards plus album.
