Description

Black-and-white team photo capturing 16 members of the 1923 World Champion New York Yankees posing together during a 25th anniversary celebration of Yankee Stadium in 1948. All of the writing present on the photo, including the date (June 13, 1948) and the names of each member of the team pictured, were penned by Whitey Whitt. It is interesting to note that this celebration marked Babe Ruth's last ever appearance at Yankee Stadium. Ruth, who is pictured in the center of the top row, was gravely ill and dying of lung cancer. He passed away just over two months later on August 16th. The photo (8 x 10 inches) is mounted on a thick backing and presents in Good to Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
