Offered is a pair of striking Lou Gehrig items: an exceptionally rare rookie-season photo of Gehrig in 1923, accompanied by a 1928 Exhibits Gehrig card. The 1923 photograph is the same image used for Gehrig's 1928 Exhibits. Together, they make for an extraordinary visual display! Photos used in the production of trading cards have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially those featuring prominent Hall of Famers such as Gehrig. 1) Photo. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. This is the first Type I example of this photo we have ever offered, and we cannot recall having seen another at auction. To our knowledge, only one other Type I photo of this image exists. While Gehrig's 1925 and 1927 Exhibits image originated from the 1924 spring training session, this is an even earlier image, dating from Gehrig's true rookie season taken at Yankee Stadium! Gehrig is captured in a full-length batting pose. The reverse displays an "International Newsreel" credit stamp, Gehrig's handwritten name, and mounting residue. The photo (3.25 x 5.25 inches), which has been neatly trimmed to its current dimensions for publication use, is in Excellent condition overall. 2) Card. Graded FAIR 1.5 by PSA. One of the key cards to the 1928 Exhibit card set, this blue-tinted card with a postcard-style back was produced by the Exhibit Supply Co. of Chicago. The offered card has a bright, crisp image of Gehrig. Downgraded due to creasing. Total: 2 items: (1 photo and 1 card).
