New York Yankees payroll check, dated July 29, 1927, issued to Hall of Fame pitcher Waite Hoyt. The check, in the amount of $1,946.08, has been signed on the front in black fountain pen by Yankees team owner Jacob Ruppert and countersigned by team secretary Ed Barrow. Endorsed by "Waite C. Hoyt," in black fountain pen on the reverse. PSA/DNA has encapsulated the check and graded the signature NM-MT 8. Waite Hoyt was the ace of the Yankees' fabled 1927 World Championship club. Hoyt led the league in both wins (22) and winning percentage (.759) in helping to lead the Yankees to 110 wins. He added one more win in Game 1 of the World Series against Pittsburgh, which ended with a 4-0 sweep by the Yankees. The check (9 x 3.25 inches) displays normal bank cancellation holes and stamps, some of which touch upon Ruppert's signature, as well as a vertical fold, a spindle hole, and a few light creases.
