Description

This remarkable document details the expenses related to Joe Louis' boxing exhibition tour in 1945, after serving in the Army's Special Services Division. Louis never saw combat in the military as he was assigned to participate in exhibition fights to help build the morale of the soldiers. This 10-page document is signed on the first page by Joe Louis, Marshall Miles (Louis' manager), and one other individual (unidentified). Louis has scripted his full name, "Joe Louis Barrow" in black fountain pen. This is one of only a few full-name Louis signatures we have seen. All the pages are typed with detailed expenses related to the tour, including cost of hotels, food, clothing, plane tickets, etc. The 10-page document (the first two pages measure 8.5 x 14 inches, and the remaining page are 8.5 x 11 inches), which is attached at the top by a single staple, has two horizontal folds and light creases. In Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication Services.
