Barry Bonds Louisville Slugger block-letter (full name) model ("H238") bat dating from the 1993 season. The cupped-end bat, which is not cracked, displays evidence of light use, including ball marks (with black-ink transfers) on the barrel. Bonds' initials and uniform number ("BB 25") is written on the knob in black marker. According to PSA/DNA, the bat has "been pinpointed to the 1993 season based on the model number, weight of the bat and its cupped barrel. The bat was manufactured on March 3rd, 1993. Two other orders for 40-ounce bats appear on Bonds Louisville Slugger ordering records dated 5/15/95 and 4/2/96. Both orders request bats with a non-cupped barrel." As noted in the accompanying LOA from PSA/DNA, the "ordered weight of the subject bat is 6 ounces heavier than his standard game bats. It's our opinion these heavy bats were ordered by Bonds for training purposes and most likely, batting practice." PSA/DNA concludes by stating that "After a thorough examination of this Barry Bonds professional model bat and its player use characteristics, it is our opinion that the bat is authentic, and was used by Bonds during the referenced labeling period." Bonds was a member of San Francisco Giants between the years 1993 and 1997, and it was during that five-year span that he emerged as one of the game's great home run hitters. He led the league in home runs in 1993 with 46, and he followed that up with home run totals of 37, 33, 42, and 40 over the next four seasons. Although Bonds is best remembered for his single-season (73) and career (762) home-run records, he was also a seven-time MVP (a Major League record) and nine-time Gold Glove Award recipient. Today he ranks among the top 10 all time in numerous offensive categories, including on-base percentage (.444), slugging percentage (.607), games played (2,986), runs scored (2,227), total bases (5,976), RBI (1,996), and bases on balls (2,558). Length: 33.75 inches. Weight: 38.5 ounces. Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (a corresponding sticker affixed to the handle).
