Price
Exceptionally rare mail-in premium featuring Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson issued by Borden's Evaporated Milk. To date, only three examples have ever been professionally graded by any of the major grading companies. This is the first such example we have ever handled. Graded FAIR 1.5 by BVG, the premium, which measures 8 x 10 inches, presents much better than suggested by its assigned grade. It has been downgraded due to light creasing as well as writing on the reverse. While Beckett has labeled this "Circa 1950," research shows an advertisement from 1950 (a copy of which is posted online, and the original does not accompany this piece) in which the label on the milk can was unique to this type of evaporated milk in that year. The Catalog of Copyright Entries shows a copyright for the Borden's Silver Cow Evaporated Milk label for Sept. 15, 1950. In addition, the Zonite advertisement also only appeared in print in 1950 according to Duke University's Digital Archive. This is fascinating and scarce premium dating to early on in Jackie Robinson's career, and it would be a worthy addition to even the most advanced collection.
