Team photograph capturing the 1902 National League Champion Pittsburgh Pirates posing together in a formal studio setting, including Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, Jack Chesbro, Barney Dreyfuss, Deacon Phillippe, Sam Leever, Ginger Beaumont, and Tommy Leach. This is an outstanding display piece for this important team! The is the same image that was also famously printed in a larger format as a supplement to The Sporting News in November 1902. Measuring approximately 5 x 3.25 inches, the piece has been encapsulated as Authentic by BVG. It is especially notable for depicting three Hall of Famers (Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, and Jack Chesbro) very early in their professional careers as well as representing one of the earliest appearances of executive and owner Barney Dreyfuss, who would also be enshrined in the Hall of Famer in 2008. The piece retains overall outstanding display value with minor creasing and edge wear visible. It displays uneven edges on all four sides, suggesting it was cut down from a larger piece at one point in time. The blank reverse features pencil-written notations of the pictured players. This is a fascinating and potentially unique small-format photograph of the important 1902 Pirates team featuring several key Hall of Famers, including Honus Wagner and Barney Dreyfuss.
