Description

Game-used baseball from the September 11, 2000, game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. This baseball has the added significance of representing the very baseball hit by Mark McGwire for career home run #553. The facts surrounding this baseball are outlined in a one-page typed, signed, and notarized letter from a member of the Pirates' groundcrew, which is further signed by five coworkers, who witnessed the events surrounding this baseball coming into his possession. In his letter, he describes how he retrieved the baseball after it was hit over the fence in centerfield during the first inning. While McGwire declined his offer to keep the baseball during a meeting between the two the next day, McGwire did sign the side panel in blue ink. McGwire would go on to hit a total of 583 home runs in his career. This is an incredibly well-documented, ironclad example of a home run ball from a 500 home run club member, few of which make it to the market. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
