Exceedingly rare full ticket (6 x 3 inches) for the heavyweight championship bout between Marvin Hart and Jack Root, held in Reno, Nevada, on July 3, 1905. Graded EX 5 by PSA. This is one of only three full tickets from the Hart/Root fight ever authenticated by PSA and it represents the second highest graded example. It is interesting to note that former heavyweight boxing champion, James J. Jeffries was the referee for the contest. With Jeffries recently retiring on May 13, 1905 with an undefeated record, the heavyweight division was abandoned without a current champion. While no boxing officials were in place at the time to resolve the issue and although there were many other top boxers to be considered, Hart and Root were chosen by Jeffries as the top contenders to face off for the vacant heavyweight title. Hart knocked Root out in the 12th round to win the title. This is an extremely scarce and highly desirable boxing ticket from one of the most famous bouts of the early twentieth century.
