Historic original news photo capturing the 1960 U. S. A. Olympic Amateur Boxing team featuring future Hall of Famer Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) at 18 years old in one of his earliest known images. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. In the offered photograph, Clay is one of nine team members (fourth from the right) posed together in a boxing stance at a training facility in New York. Also featured in this photo are gold medalist Eddie Crook and Willie McClure. Each individual is identified on the original paper news caption dated "8-14-60" affixed to the reverse. According to Henry Yee, principal authenticator at PSA/DNA, this is the only example of this particular 1960 Olympic boxing team photo known to exist! Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) won the Light Heavyweight boxing championship at the 1960 U. S. Olympic Amateur Boxing Finals and later won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. The photo (9-1/8 x 7 inches) displays light creases, a small tear on the bottom edge, a spot of paper loss on the top edge, and glue residue on the left border and reverse. A few editorial markings are visible on the borders. In Fair condition overall.
