Description

Incredible original photograph of Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) and Sonny Liston from their historic heavyweight title bout held at the Convention Center in Miami, Florida, on February 25, 1964. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photo by PSA/DNA. Taken by renowned boxing sportswriter and photographer Stanley Weston, Clay is captured stepping away from Liston's left jab. Weston was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2006. The reverse of the photo has a stain from Weston's credit sticker that has detached long ago. According to Henry Yee, principal authenticator at PSA/DNA, this is the only example (along with the other three we are offering) of a Stanley Weston photograph taken from this historic fight that PSA/DNA has ever authenticated! As he promised, Clay shocked the world by defeating the heavily favored Liston to capture the World Heavyweight title in Miami that night. Shortly after the bout, he joined the Nation of Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. The photo (10 x 8-1/8 inches) is in Excellent condition overall.
