Graded NM+ 7.5 by SGC. Outstanding high-grade example of New York Yankees Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle's 1955 Bowman card. This well-centered example has beautiful colors, a crisp image, and minimal corner and edge wear. Clean reverse. In 1955, at the age of 23, the young Mantle had a breakout year. In 147 games, he hit 37 home runs, batted .306, and led the league with a slugging percentage of .611. This was also a breakout year for Bowman because it introduced its "television" set during a time when millions of homes across the country were first being exposed to TV broadcasts. The flush-to-the-border wood grain design of 1955 Bowman makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear, making high-grade examples like this very difficult to find. This card would make an ideal addition to a high-quality 1955 Bowman set or Mantle card collection.
